Title: On Desire Writing and Ethical Reflection in The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?

Abstract: Edward Albee, an American playwright, in his work The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? takes Martin’s fall into bestiality as the core event, and the quarrels between the characters as the main content to promote the development of the play, revealing the social reality of ethical confusion caused by multiculturalism and writing the ethical crisis prevailing in the post-modern American society. The Desire Writing is the key to entering the text. Focusing on the event of bestiality in the drama, the quarrels among characters, and Martin’s attitude towards his son’s homosexuality, we can see that the postmodernist ethical view has caused a general moral ambiguity in society, as well as the ethical chaos that follows, such as incest, bestiality, and pedophilia. On a deeper level, the dramatic characters' use of “political correctness” to set aside actions to resolve contradictions reflects Albee's profound reflection on postmodernist ethics.
