Title: On Desire Writing and Ethical Reflection in The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?

Abstract: Edward Albee, an American playwright, in his work The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? centers the narrative on Martin’s descent into a non-natural emotional relationship with a goat, while driving the dramatic progression primarily through the quarrels between characters. Through this framework, Albee reveals the social reality of ethical confusion exacerbated by multiculturalism and articulates the prevailing ethical crisis within postmodern American society. The Desire Writing is the key to entering the text. By focusing on the unnatural emotional relationships in the play and the quarrels between characters, we can observe that postmodernist ethics have led to widespread moral ambiguity in society, as well as the resulting ethical confusion. On a deeper level, the fact that the play’s characters put aside actions to resolve conflicts in the name of "political correctness" reflects Albee’s profound reflection on postmodernist ethics.
