Title:David Brin and Animal Narratives in the Uplift Trilogy
Abstract: David Brin, a renowned American sci-fi author, is known for his Uplift trilogy, which depicts humans and genetically altered animals facing alien threats. Set in a universe molded by millennia of species enhancement, the series highlights the lives of hybrid creatures. It critiques the detachment from life due to genetic engineering with animal-centric narrative and envisions the transformative potential of biotechnology. The trilogy's animal language challenges human-centric views, using a “becoming-animal” narrative to explore the potential for mutual change between humans and animals.
